Eugene Layne

Eugene (Gene) Layne, 70, went home to be with the Lord, December 10, 2012, after a long battle with a chronic illness. Even though he was in pain you would never know it. He was a man of strength, much love, and honor. What he said he meant and he meant what he said.

Gene was born June 14, 1942, to Paul Layne Sr. & Norma (Edwards) Layne in Huntington, WV. Gene graduated from Huntington East High School, where he played many sports; he stood out on the football field and the basketball court. After high school he attended Bluefield College. After college he joined the United States Army he served our country and was honorably discharged. Gene came to Richmond in 1963. He retired from the Dana Corporation.

His wife Peggie survives Gene; they loved each other for 39 years. He also leaves 5 children Cynthia Walker, Eugene Layne Jr., Pamela Stevens, Patricia (Chris) Powell, and Robert Ace Layne. 7 brothers and sister Patricia Hughes, Betty Brown, Harry Layne, Gloria Greene, Matthew Layne, Marvin Layne, and Shirley 0den. 12 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and a host of family & friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Paul Layne Jr. and Ronald Layne, a granddaughter Eliza Boatman, 2 great granddaughters Mackenzie Walker and Angelina Walker.

Funeral services for Gene will be held Saturday December 15, 2012, at 1:00 pm at Community Family Funeral Home 101 West Main Street Richmond. Calling hours will be held two hours prior to the service from 11:00am-1:00pm. Burial will be at Earlham Cemetery. Send online condolences to the family via
